KATHMANDU, July 30: CPN-UML Chairperson and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called for dialogue and consensus to resolve the country’s problems, as tensions have escalated in parts of Madhesh following recent incidents of violence.
In an appeal issued on Thursday, Oli urged an immediate end to violence and called for efforts to restore peace through dialogue and consensus. He said conflicts and violence could not provide solutions to the country’s problems.
Oli expressed sorrow over the deaths of civilians in shooting incidents in Sunsari and Siraha and voiced serious concern over the government’s silence and use of force.

He also warned against possible attempts to divide citizens to serve “undesirable objectives” and urged the public to remain vigilant against such efforts.
Oli said the country was passing through a difficult situation and that major political parties should rise above political competition, mutual accusations and “cheap populism” to work together to maintain peace, security and stability.
He called on all political parties, civil society, intellectuals, and leaders of various religious and social communities to unite in the national interest and for the restoration of peace.
“During this hour, I sincerely call upon all political parties, civil society, intellectuals and leaders of various religious and social communities to unite for the national interest and the restoration of peace,” Oli said in his appeal.
Oli’s appeal comes amid heightened tensions in Madhesh following a series of violent incidents that have claimed three lives in the past three days.
