KATHMANDU, June 19: Citing lack of adequate time for homework to formulate the party´s election strategy, the meeting of the CPN-UML central committee has been postponed for a month.

The standing committee of the party held at party head office Balkhu on Wednesday to set agendas for the central committee meeting scheduled to start Friday took a decision to this effect. [break]

“The meeting was called before the announcement of the election date. The situation has changed now. We will formulate our party´s election strategy after reviewing the progress in a month-long poll campaign,” said Yuba Raj Gyawali, party secretary.

The party´s poll campaign will conclude on June 29. The party has sent its leaders to election constituencies for a month-long campaign during which they will asses the party´s strength.

“Firstly, reports from the election constituencies would be handed over to the party for review” said Gyawali, adding that the central committee meeting would be held after the reports from the constituencies are reviewed.

Similarly, the meeting of the representative council of the party has also become uncertain. The council meeting had been called for July 19-20.

“The council will only take decisions regarding election,” said Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior leader of UML. The council is the second powerful body of the party.

Similarly, UML also demanded compensation for the victims of flood and landslides in western Nepal.

UML on Wednesday also appointed Prithivi Subba Gurung as the secretary of the party´s head office secretary.
