KATHMANDU, JUNE 13: The main opposition UML has taken strong exception to the proposal coming from some quarter of the ruling parties to postpone the second phase of the local elections. Four provinces including two provinces in the plains are set to go to polls on June 28.

In a statement issued after a meeting of the party's elections steering committee, UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai appealed to the general public to stand united against conspiracies to defer polls. The government has already postponed the polls three times prior to settling on June 28.

"UML is against any plan to defer the local polls as this will create uncertainty," Bhattarai, who is also party's spokesperson, said in a statement.

UML, which is the second largest party in parliament, has denounced what it calls the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal's deliberate attacks on poll campaigns of the UML, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Nepal Loktantrik Forum and other parties.

"We urge the RJPN to stop all anti-political activities and withdraw the protest programs that disrupt the second round of local level election," said Bhattarai.
