BIRGUNJ, Feb 12: CPN (United Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal has neither supported nor opposed the MCC. He has instead suggested postponing the parliamentary ratification of the MCC deal until the next election.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Socialist Press Organization in Birgunj on Friday, Chairperson Nepal, who is also a former prime minister, said that some issues need to be resolved before passing the MCC as ordinary people seem totally against it.
The alliance will last till the next election: Chairman Nepal
Chairperson Nepal seemed careful not to break the current alliance led by Nepali Congress (NC) due to which he spoke very cautiously about the MCC and did not appear to be in favor or against it.
“As the public is against the MCC, it is a big challenge for us to convince them," said Chairperson Nepal. “False rumors and accusations about MCC are spread among people. It is important to clarify these things before passing it.”
He argued that postponing the MCC would give time for in-depth study and discussion about it.
