KANCHANPUR, Dec 19: Interesting as it may sound but of the total 18 male hockey players selected from the Far Western Region to vie in hockey game in the forthcoming 7th National Games, 17 are from Kanchanpur district in the region and from a single village.

Ultakham in Bhimduttanagar Municipality in Kanchanpur district has become a breeding ground for hockey players and champions alike.

Although hockey was played in Kanchanpur since 1996, the players have proven their mettle at various national and international sports competitions, including recently held SAF championship in Guwahati in India, shared Assistant Hockey Coach Nar Bahadur Chand.

Chand argued that since hockey players from Ultakham attend training sessions regularly held at the Baghfata School in Ultakham, chances of their selection remain higher.

The selected hockey players, 18 each for male and female teams, for the upcoming national sports event are aged 14-25, informed Chand, adding that they are currently undergoing training to bring home the trophy.

Female hockey captain from Far West Region, Tulasa Dagaura was of the confidence that her experienced 17 team members would bag title in the national games. Seven of them have played in the last SAF Championship.
