"We decided to be flexible if the CPN-Maoist expresses commitment to participate in the constituent assembly election," said Narayan Kaji Shrestha of UCPN (Maoist) headquarter.
The CPN-Maoist led alliance, floating an 18-point demand, pressed for a roundtable of all political parties and stakeholders to ensure the drafting of a new constitution and find a solution to the current political crisis. According to the Maoists, the discussions of the roundtable will determine the date of the CA poll.
Talks between the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) and the CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance failed after the HLPC stipulateds that the date of the CA poll and formation of a new government should not be discussed by the roundtable. The HLPC accused the alliance of not giving assurance of participation in the election.
