UCPN (M), CPN-M condemn SC verdict on TRC jurisdiction

KATHMANDU, March 10: UCPN (Maoist) And CPN-Maoist on Tuesday expressed its concern over the recent Supreme Court decision regarding the jurisdiction of the newly-formed Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission on Enquiry of Enforced Disappearances (CEED).

Issuing a joint press statement today, they termed the SC decision, which prevented to transfer the conflict era cases to TRC or CEED that has already been taken up by a court and give amnesty to perpetrators convicted in cases of serious human rights violation, is against the spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA).

They have claimed that SC’s recent ruling is directed toward reviving the decade-long conflict rather than taking it to a logical conclusion.

The SC had issued ruling that conflict era cases already been taken up by a court can't be transferred to TRC or CEED and that TRC and CEED can't give any amnesty to perpetrators convicted in cases of serious human rights violations.
