Two youths arrested with drugs worth Rs 9 million

KATHMANDU, April 14: A police team deployed from Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested two youths with drugs from the capital city.

NCB said that Netra Gurung, 26, and Chitra Tamang, 21, of Satyadevi-8, Rakchowk of Dhading were arrested with 302 grams amphetamine (ICE) from KMC-9, Goldengate on Tuesday. The drugs were concealed in dolls, handles of suitcase and boxes of creams.

Police said the duo had arrived Kathmandu from Bangkok, Thailand on March 11.

Preliminary investigation suggests that they brought the drugs from Thailand to Nepal for transit before supplying it to other countries.

According to police, Gurung is a member of a gang that smuggles amphetamine to Indonesia, Australia, the Philippines and other countries through Thailand.  

It was a first incident related to smuggling of amphetamine in the country, police said, adding that the consignment fetches around Rs 9 million in international market.
