Based on the recommendation of a probe committee of the Local Development Ministry including Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shreshta, who also holds portfolio of Local Development Ministry, District Development Committee (DDC) has initiated action against Dev Naratyan Saha, secretary of Bairaba VDC and Narayan Yadav, secretary of Dadha VDC of Saptari for their embezzlement.[break]
The high-level probe committee has also asked clarification from seven staff at DDC office and 5 more VDC secretaries in the district. According to Local Development Officer, Krishna Prasad Sapkota, the probe team recommended action against those guilty in the embezzlement of the social security allowance, development budget and internal management.
LDO Sapkota informed that the probe team found Dev Naratyan Saha had submitted fake receipt to embezzle Rs 147,000 of the social security allowance while Narayan Yadav was found to have siphoned off Rs 156,000 through bogus receipts of the social security allowance. Police has already arrested secretary Saha while Yadav is at large.
Besides, the probe team has also sought clarification from four technical staff. The technical staff are asked to submit clarification regarding the mistake they made in various development projects and huge amount of unaccounted arrears for the money they took as advance. “The probe team will make the report public on Wednesday and all things will be clear then,” said Sapkota.
Meanwhile, DDC office also informed that it has marked the attendance of nine technical staff and 16 other staff in the DDC as absent after they were not in office during a surprise check by the team from the ministry, including minister Shrestha. In the wake of increasing criticism of over 380 million rupees arrears in the DDC, District Administration Office had seized all the documents and records of the DDC last month.
