Two pilgrims found dead after drowning in Gosaikunda

According to Chief of Rasuwa District Police Office Hem Bahadur Shahi, the bodies of Sujan Dhakal, aged around 28 from Biratnagar, Morang and Manoj Neupane from Belbari, Morang, were recovered.

KATHMANDU, July 28: Two pilgrims who went missing while taking a ritual bath at the sacred Gosaikunda lake of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, have been found dead.



According to Chief of Rasuwa District Police Office Hem Bahadur Shahi, the bodies of Sujan Dhakal, aged around 28 from Biratnagar, Morang and Manoj Neupane from Belbari, Morang, were recovered.

The two had gone missing on Saturday while bathing in the holy lake. A rescue team from the Nepali Army’s Shreenath Battalion, using local resources and support, retrieved the bodies from the lake. As per the Nepali Army, the bodies will be handed over to Nepal Police.


Preliminary assessments suggest the two may have drowned after entering the deeper part of the lake.
