Two new rape cases reported in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT, Sept 21: Two new cases of rape have been revealed in Rautahat district of Terai. Two rape cases were reported last week while the two new cases were reported in the district in the last two days. Police have already arrested the accused in all the four cases.

Suresh Giri, 42, of Madhav Narayan Municipality-4 has been arrested for raping a 13-year old girl of Bodhimai Municipality-3. Pretending to treat the sick girl with a shamanic method, Giri took her to a lonely place and allegedly raped her on Tuesday. An investigation into the case is underway, said police. On Tuesday, police also arrested Ram Krishna Sahani, 31, of Chandrapur Municipality on the charge of rape. Sahani, who has been handed over to Rautahat District Police, has been accused of raping a 16-year girl of Chandrapur, Rautahat.

Meanwhile, two rape cases which took place on September 11 have been revealed in the district. The two separate incidents of raping girl children took place at Birta of Garuda Municipality-8 and Gamhariya of Gadhimai Municipality. The accused of both cases have been arrested. While the locals have lauded the police for catching the culprits, they are terrified of the increasing violence against women. "We are too worried by the rising violence against women," said civil society activist Bijay Kishor Jha.
