KATHMANDU, July 29 : As the political parties gear up for the Constituent Assembly election slated for November 19, more and more leaders could be seen switching sides.

Only on Monday, the Central Committee (CC) member of Sharat Singh Bhandari-led National Madhesh Socialist Party (NMSP) Laxman Mehta and CC member of Madheshi People´s Right Forum-Republican Mohammad Shani Thakurai have joined Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar-led MPRF-Democratic. [break]

Amidst a function organized at the party´s central office in Sanepa, MPRF-D Chairman Gachchhadar welcomed the leaders.

Speaking to Republica, MPRF-D Vice-chairman Nasir Siddiqui said that more than 70 leaders from different Madhesi parties have joined his party.

“Leaders from different parties are joining our party as we have clear agenda for the election,” said Siddiqui.

Stating that the party was fully prepared for the polls, Siddhiqui claimed, “As our party structure is becoming stronger we are likely to sweep the Tarai.”

However, the Chairman of NMSP Sharat Singh Bhandari cites a different reason for Mehta´s defection.

“We had sacked him through a central committee meeting decision held three months ago for not being dedicated towards the party,” said Bhandari.

Bhandari also charged MPRF-D with being driven by vested interests of its leaders.

“I am shocked to find that some leaders are joining Gachchhadar´s party, which is not working for the Madheshi cause,” Bhandari added.
