A team deployed by the DEO found 105 teachers absent from their duties for more than three days without submitting leave applications. Some teachers were found to have remained absent for as many as 44 days without prior notice. [break]
According to District Education Officer Girman Thapa, the DEO has already initiated a process to cut the salaries of truant teachers for the number of days they did not turn up at schools. Thapa also said that the issue of absence will figure while adding their grades, too.
The DEO had sent an inspection team two weeks ago after receiving complaints from parents about teachers not being present regularly. Some parents said the DEO´s crackdown has already brought positive results.
“The teachers, who used to skip classes on different pretexts earlier, have started to show up at schools now,” said the parents.
