KATHMANDU, March 21: Transport entrepreneurs have demanded the government to revise the fare of public transport at the earliest, which has remained the same since 2018.
A team led by President of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Yogendra Nath Karmacharya held a meeting with Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basant Kumar Nembang and demanded adjusting the fare of public transport according to the increase in the prices of petroleum products.
Saroj Sitaula, General Secretary of the Federation, said that they have requested the government to adjust the fare within the first week of April on the basis of the increase seen in the prices of petroleum products as per the commitment made earlier by the government. “If the fare of public transport is not adjusted within the first week of April, we will be forced to park all the means of public transport in our houses and garages,” he said.
Transport entrepreneurs have claimed that the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) is delaying the adjustment of fares.
