KATHMANDU, Sept 30: The UCPN (Maoist) faction led by Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya is all set to organize torch rallies all across the country at 6 Friday evening, demanding resignation of the defense minister and scrapping of the four point deal the party earlier reached with Madhes-based parties.

Maoist Central Committee member Jayapuri Gharti, who is close to Baidya, informed about the protest rallies that would also be simultaneously taken out at several places in the capital including Shantibatika and Langankhel. [break]

Gharti also said they would continue the protest rallies on Saturday and hold nationwide interaction programs on Sunday to press for meeting their demands.

The Baidya faction of UCPN (Maoist), taking serious exception to the recent statement made by Defense Minister and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic leader Sharat Singh Bhandari that the 22 Terai districts could secede if their concerns were not addressed, has been demanding Bhandari’s sacking.

The faction has also demanded scrapping of the four-point deal with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), relating Bhandari’s controversial remark to the essence of the four-point pact.
