KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Police arrested two officials in a raid at Transport Management Office (TMO) at Ekantakuna in Lalitpur on Sunday for allegedly issuing driving licenses in an illegal manner.

Those arrested are Laxman Prasad Shrestha, a section officer, and Shambu Acharya, a kharidar. The police also arrested two brokers --Manu Thapa and Barkha Bahadur Thapa -- for conniving with the officials.

A squad led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Kumar Lamsal had raided the TMO and seized two such licenses and a record book. “We found that they recorded the details in the book to authenticate the licenses despite issuing them without getting the applicants to follow the due procedures,” he added.
