The TMDP took a decision to this effect at the party´s central committee meeting held at Singha Durbar. TMDP on January 2 had urged the Prime Minister to relive Minister for Industry Mahendra Prasad Yadav and State Minister Dan Bahadur Chaudhary of their duties.[break]
Following the decision, four TMDP ministers in the coalition government -- Education Minister Sarbendra Nath Sukla, State Minister for Education Govinda Chaudhary, Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Tiwari Nepali and Assistant Minister Chanda Chaudhary -- tendered their collective resignations before party Chairman Mahantha Thakur.
“Six days have passed since we handed over a formal letter to the prime minister urging him to sack the two ministers representing TMDP,” said TMDP Vice-president Hridesh Tripathi. “However, as we received no response from the prime minister, the CC meeting decided to withdraw TMDPs support to the government.”
Stating that the resignations of the four ministers from TMDP would be handed over to the prime minister, Tripathi said the latter´s reluctance in taking action against the two ministers of the splinter faction speaks volumes about the UML "ploy" to split TMDP.
TMDP Spokesperson Jitendra Sonal also accused the UML leaders of engineering the split in his party.
Yadav along with nine TMDP lawmakers had split from the mother party and registered TMDP, Nepal at the parliamentary secretariat on December 31 accusing the party leadership of taking decisions in a non-transparent manner.
Meanwhile, Yadav-led delegation on Friday morning met Speaker Subas Nembang and said that nine lawmakers from TMDP-Nepal would continue to support the present government.
“We will remain in the government. Those who have sour feelings may leave the government,” Yadav said.
The delegation had requested Nembang to arrange necessary space and manpower to establish TMDP-N office.
Meanwhile TMDP chief Thakur and the prime minister on Friday discussed the issue.
