LAHAN, Jan 10: A young man died after being hit by a tipper at Mithila municipality-5 in Dhanusha district on Friday.
According to the chief at Area Police Office, Dhalkebar Inspector Ram Kumar Yadav, Dilip Kumar Mahato, 24, of Shreepur-5 died on the spot after being struck by the tipper. Mahato who was against the illegal excavation of sand was knocked down at the river.

Inspector Yadav told Republica Online that police have launched an investigation into the incident suspecting the murder of Mahato as the latter had been consistently raising voice against excessive extraction of sand and pebbles from the river.
"According to eyewitnesses, Mahato was dragged to the river and subsequently the tipper (Na 7 Kha 6413) ran over him," Yadav informed.
Mahato was killed when he was out for morning walk with his friend.
Enraged locals burnt tyre and obstructed the Mahendra Highway in protest of the alleged murder.
Mortal remains of Mahato has been sent to Provincial Hospital, Janakpur for postmortem, Inspector Yadav informed.
