CHITWAN, Aug 8: A tiger that entered the Khairhani settlement in Chitwan and killed a man has been successfully apprehended.

Collaborative efforts involving the Chitwan National Park (CNP), the National Nature Conservation Fund, and a Nepali Army team culminated in the capture of the tiger at 4:30 PM on Monday from a banana farm located at Khairhani-12, Sahanpur.

Tragedy struck on Sunday when Anil Tamang, a 35-year-old resident of Khairhani municipality-11, lost his life due to an encounter with the tiger. Subsequently, the park authorities launched a search operation for the tiger as it was traced in the banana farm. The villagers were panicked as news of the tiger's presence in the settlement spread.

The body of the deceased Tamang was retrieved from the banana farm on Sunday evening and handed over to his family. A team of 15 elephants was deployed on Sunday, followed by 12 elephants on Monday, equipped with specialized technicians, to aid in the search for the tiger.

Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the Information Officer of Chitwan National Park, expressed that the captured tiger is an approximately four-year-old male. Tiwari credited the successful capture to the dedicated efforts of technicians, staff members, and the Nepali Army.

The tiger has been placed within a secure enclosure in Sauraha. Currently, a total of five tigers, captured from various locations, are being housed in cages across Kasara and Sauraha within the Chitwan National Park. Notably, the park is home to a population of 128 tigers.
