BUTWAL, April 2: Ruslan Three Star Club has advanced into the final of the ongoing third Madan Bhandari Gold Cup Football Tournament, defeating host Madan Bhandari Sports Academy 1-0 on Sunday.

Three Star took the lead in the 35th minute as Buddha Chemjong scored from a free kick taken by Bimal Gharti Magar.

Three Star’s efforts throughout the match were brilliantly denied by the Madan Bhandari’s strong defense line. Even though Madan Bhandari players played attacking football in the second half, Three Star succeeded in stopping them.  The host missed three glorious goal scoring chances in the match.

Three Star’s African player Peter was named the man-of-the-match.

Three Star’s head coach Megh Raj KC said that they were successful in winning the match with the hard work of experienced players, and all players who played very well in the match.

Madan Bhandari’s head coach Sundar Thapa said that the lack of national players in his side, failure to convert the chances they got, and tiredness of the players was the reason of the loss.

Madan Bhandari only came to play the tournament after taking part in the Katari Gold Cup on Friday. The host was prized with Rs 50,000 for reaching the semifinal.

Madan Bhandari was seen as a contender to win the tournament after lifting the Tilottama Gold Cup in Butwal around two weeks ago.

Three Star will now take on Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club in the final on Monday. Manang reached the final by defeating Sunaulo Sangam 5-0 on Saturday.
