"We've initiated investigation into the case," SP Ram Dutta Joshi of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range said. He added that they would also investigate other tormentors who had joined hands with the police to beat the victim. "We will initiate investigation against others as well," Joshi said.

Joshi declined to comment at the moment as they were investigating the case. However, he hinted there might be reasons for the police's action. "He might have swore and caused a scene in public space and defied police's request to move ahead."

He added that the police were committed to ensure public safety and security, especially in light of Dashain festival. "We've beefed up security checks in border areas as well as entry points in Kathmandu valley."

Joshi said that they had set up 67 check points throughout Kathmandu valley and increased police patrolling in light of the biggest festivals of Hindus.
