“She is continuously conscious since this morning,” Orthopedic Registrar at the hospital Shikshya Shrestha told Republica.
Bista, a woman journalist associated with the Rajdhani daily, was mercilessly thrashed by unidentified individuals in Rukum on Monday. She was thrown for dead in a forest. Her family members alleged that local Maoist cadres were behind the attack.
Meanwhile, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) staged half an hour sit-in outside District Administration Offices (DAOs) across the country on Thursday, demanding punishment for the guilty involved in the attack.
FNJ also warned of launching strong protests if the government failed to book the guilty and ensure safety to journalists.
In Kathmandu, the FNJ organized a sit-in outside DAO at Baber Mahal for half an hour starting 3 p.m.
Addressing the sit-in, FNJ President Dharmendra Jha asked all parties concerned not to politicize the issue of attack on Bista and help bring the perpetrators to justice irrespective of their political affiliation. Jha criticized the government for failing to ensure safety to journalists. He said the FNJ will soon conduct field study and publicize the truth behind the incident.
