LAHAN, April 1: CPN-Maoist General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa said Monday this government will never be able to hold elections in November, let alone in June, this year.

Speaking at a press meet organized by the party’s Mithila State Council this morning, Thapa said the current chief justice-led government does not have legal rights to conduct elections. [break]

He was of the opinion that the Khil Raj Regmi-led government was only formed out of compulsion to oust the then Baburam Bhattarai government.

“The recent election activities are nothing but a ruse. The people are not interested and excited about the new elections,” Thapa said, adding there is no point holding elections when there is an apolitical government running the country.

He said the CPN-Maoist-led alliance of 33 fringe parties are shortly meeting the chief election commissioner to halt preparations for new polls. He warned that they would force the EC to stop the works if their request is overlooked.
