Talking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport, Thapa said the three-point deal with the Maoists on May 28 clearly states that the prime minister will step down without delay once the Maoists come up with such a plan. “The resignation of the prime minister will follow once the Maoists come up with a clear outlook on these issues,” he said. Thapa said the main reason behind the current political impasse is the priority the big three parties have given to power and formation the new government. “It is not important who stays in power. We need to move ahead toward resolving the crisis,” he said.
Coming down heavily on party leaders for engaging in the race for power, he said there is no alternative to consensus among the parties to accomplish the task of concluding the peace process and writing the new constitution. He said the Maoists cannot be trusted as long as it does not transform into a civilian party.
Warning that a new political force would take over if the government failed to promulgate the new constitution on time, he said, “People have given a last chance to the parties. A new force will emerge if the government fails to promulgate the new constitution even within the extended one year period.”
Thapa, however, ruled out the possibility of former king making a comeback into power.
