KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Thamel is set to host the 'New Year Eve Thamel Street Festival' on the eve of the English New Year 2024.

The Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC) has announced the continuation of its annual road festival on the eve of New Year 2024.

Bhabishwor Sharma, President of TTDC, shared with Republica that Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka will inaugurate the festival, scheduled to commence at 5:30 PM on Sunday, December 31.

Sharma encouraged businesses across Thamel to showcase their products and services, contributing to the campaign aimed at establishing Thamel as a nationally and internationally attractive destination on New Year's Eve. He mentioned the installation of CCTV cameras for tourist safety and the formation of a 24-hour collective monitoring team.

President Sharma said that 130,000 domestic and foreign tourists celebrated the New Year in Thamel last year, with an expected increase to 180,000 tourists this year.
