BUTWAL, Nov 17: Established politician Brijesh Kumar Gupta had won the previous two Constituent Assembly (CA) elections from the then constituency-3 of Kapilvastu district. At that time, he was representing Tarai-Madhesh Loktantrik Party, which later went on to merge with five other fringes Madhesi parties to form Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) just a few months ago.

During the Madhes movement, he worked with the alliance of Madhesi parties to fuel the protests. He led various rallies, sit-in protests and bandh during the movement. However, after the merger of his party, Gupta did not affiliate himself with RJPN. Perhaps he did not feel the same attraction towards RJPN as he previously did for his the then Tarai-Madhesh Loktantrik Party.

And perhaps for the same reason, influential leader Gupta has chosen to represent the main opposition CPN-UML instead of RJPN in the upcoming parliamentary elections slated for the second phase on December 7 in the district.

Gupta would be contesting from constituency 2 of Kapilvastu in the upcoming elections. His main opponent would be Surendra Acharya of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC). RJPN, on the other hand, does not look competitive there.
