Teenager killed in elephant attack

SAPTARI, July 15: A teenager has been killed in an attack by an elephant at Saptakoshi Municipality-10 in Saptari.

Sangita Yadav, around 13 years of age, was attacked by an elephant from the Koshi Wildlife Reserve as she was in the local jungle for grazing the cattle on Wednesday evening, said Kanchanpur Area Police Chief Inspector Meghraj Thapa.


An elephant appeared on the scene all of a sudden and started chasing the girl, explained 19-year-old Shyam Ram who was accompanying the girl and witnessed the incident.

However, Ram managed to flee the scene and informed the villagers about the incident. The girl was found dead this morning. The body has been sent to Rajbiraj-based Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital for a post-mortem, the police said. RSS
