KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission Dr Jagadish Chandra Pokharel said Friday that the government was preparing to announce technical budget of Rs 335 billion, as the lack of budget after mid-November would create a vacuum, pushing country towards a failed state.

While citing that the country cannot be held hostage of inaction in the name of current government being a caretaker one, he even suggested the leaders not to engage in wrong arguments.[break]

Speaking at a program here, Pokharel said the budget addressing the crucial issues of national importance can become a point of consensus among the parties and even help parties end their current differences.

“The budget will give continuity to large scale development programs of the past, and also aim to create job opportunities by giving special emphasis on tourism development, agriculture modernization, hydropower development and construction of infrastructures,” he stated.

Pokharel also argued that caretaker government can announce the budget. In case the new government does not agree, it can always make changes as it deems appropriate, he said.

“Announcement of budget is critical for the betterment of the country. I think the parties in the parliament shouldn´t make it a point to dispute,” said Pokharel.
