The UDMF held a meeting of the constituent parties to chalk out a strategy to compel the government to incorporate their demands in the new budget.
The leaders of the UDMF have warned of dire consequences if the government turns a deaf ear to their demands.
“The budget would fail to garner national consensus if the UDMF is not taken into confidence,” Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhdar told reporters after the meeting.
Deputy Parliamentary Party leader of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican (MPRF-R) Nandan Kumar Dutta, who was also present at the meeting, said the government must address their demands before unveiling the budget.
“If the government does not address our concerns, we will be compelled to take harsh measures,” Dutta told Republica.
The UDMF wants sufficient budget for the postal road in the Tarai, the proposed east-west electrical railway, relief packages for the martyrs of the Madhes movement and subsidy for peasants, according to Dutta.
The leaders of UDMF claimed that the government has not allocated sufficient budget for the Tarai region.
The UDMF is scheduled to hold a meeting on Wednesday as well.
