BANEPA, Sept 5: Area Police Office (APO), Banepa on Monday arrested an owner of a sweet shop on the charge of raping a teenager.

Acting on a complaint filed by the victim, police arrested a 25-year-old man from ward 11 of Dhulikhel Municipality where he ran the sweet shop. He has been accused of raping one of his workers.

Inspector Sunil Jung Shah said that the accused had allegedly promised to drop the seventeen-year-old girl at her brother-in-law’s rented room in Banepa-11 but he instead took her to his room and raped her. The incident occurred at around 9 pm on Sunday, according to Inspector Shah.

The victim was a new worker, who was hired only a few days ago. As she was new to the city, her brother-in-law used to pick her up every day after work. However, on Sunday, he did not come to pick her after the sweet shop owner himself assured to drop her home.

The victim stated in the complaint that she panicked when he took her through a different route. “He took me to his room by force, locked the door and raped me,” Shah quoted the victim as telling the police.

According to police, the victim came in contact with her sister and brother-in-law at around 11 pm. Her relatives filed a complaint only on Monday. She was sent for a medical test the same day. Police have started an investigation against the accused after securing a judicial custody of seven days from the Kavrepalanchowk District Court.
