KATHMANDU, April 9: The number of Nepali citizens visiting Thailand has seen a significant increase.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, approximately 6.4 million tourists from around the globe visited Thailand in January and February 2024. Among these, 6,860 were Nepali citizens.

Comparatively, in the first two months of 2023, as many as 4,360 Nepali citizens made their way to Thailand. Specifically, 3,751 Nepalis visited in January and 3,109 in February of this year, marking an increase of 91.67 percent and 29.38 percent compared to the same months of the previous year, respectively.

Chinese tourists topped the list of international visitors to Thailand. Over the two-month period, 1.18 million Chinese citizens visited Thailand, a significant rise from the previous year. In January, the influx of Chinese visitors was 543 percent higher than that of the last year, and in February, it increased by 333 percent. Among South Asian countries, India led with the highest number of visitors to Thailand, with 311,823 Indian nationals visiting in the two months.
