KATHMANDU, June 30: National Dalit Commission (NDC) has made its report public concluding that Sanu Sunar had died due to brutal torture inside police custody.

Organizing a press meet in the capital on Wednesday, NDC said that the deep injuries in Sunar’s head proved that he was brutally tortured during interrogation and investigation.

NDC has demanded to book the police officer and police personnel who were involved in the incident by suspending them and to provide one million rupees in compensation to the victim’s family.

Chairman of NDC Bijul BK alleged Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhola Rawal and Police Inspector Pushkar Chand of Kalimati Police Circle, Kathmandu, of intentionally making scapegoats of the junior officers as an attempt to save themselves.

BK said the government should pay attention towards such incidents as fingers have been pointing at the Nepal Police as many Nepalis have been killed in police custody. He said it is the violation of human rights to be killed from the hand of security forces.
