BAJHANG, June 21: In a tragic accident that took place on Tuesday afternoon, Sudurpaschim Provincial Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Prithvi Bahadur Singh, his wife and sister-in-law were killed.


While Singh's wife Amrita and his sister-in-law Jayadevi died shortly after the accident, Minister Singh breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Nepalgunj-based Hospital later in the evening.


Minister Singh, who was seriously injured in the road accident at Bagthala of Kedarsyun Rural Municipality in Bajhang, was airlifted to Kohalpur-based Nepalgunj Medical College by a Nepalese Army helicopter for treatment. He passed away at 5:33 PM on Tuesday while undergoing treatment. Along with Minister Singh, the injured driver Dharmaraj Joshi and the minister's PSO Deepak Bhandari were also taken to Kohalpur.

According to Acting Chief District Officer of Bajhang Satya Kumari Joshi, Minister Singh's wife Amrita Singh and sister-in-law Jayadevi Singh died on the spot after the vehicle they were traveling in fell 100 meters down the road and plunged into the Kalanga river.


The ill-fated jeep (SU PRA 001 Jha 480) in which Minister Singh was traveling from Dadeldhura to Bajhang  met with an accident on the bank of the Kalanga River in Kedarsyun Rural Municipality-1 of Bajhang at 2:30 PM on Tuesday.


According to Dr Arbindra Adhikari of Rayal Primary Health Center, Deura, the minister's wife Amrita and sister-in-law Jayadevi, were pronounced “brought dead” at the primary health center for treatment.


"Both of them were already dead while they were brought here for treatment," he said, "The bodies have been kept at the primary health center."
