"Our students were very much touched by the news published in Republica daily and had decided to raise the fund," said Samjhana Basnet, principal of the college. She said that the college administration has been encouraging its students to work for good cause. The college said that all students, teachers, faculty members had contributed money for the fund.
Daniel Subba, a student who was active in raising the fund, said that they decided to spend the money for a good cause. "We decided not to go on a picnic this year to support the victim," Suyasha Dahal, another student, said.
The girl was raped by Suman Shrestha, 26, a neighbor to the victim family, two months ago. Police said that Shrestha has confessed to the crime and told that he raped the minor in a drunken stupor. Doctors said the victim is traumatized and that the trauma might last throughout her life. The victim´s family had complained about the financial problems for the treatment of their daughter.
Meanwhile, several other organizations and people have provided financial assistance to the victim family. The Advocacy Forum has provided Rs 20, 000 and the Children-Women in Social Service and Human Rights (CWISH) has provided Rs 11,000.
Local people of Thankot provided Rs 25,000. Pradeeep Dangol, a child right officer with CWISH said that the Norwegian Fund has committed to provide Rs 1,500 each month toward the education of the victim. Dangol said that other organizations and individuals have provided about Rs 80,000 to the victim´s family.
