During their meeting with the agitating student leaders, MoE officials also agreed to construct 75 community +2 schools. However, these +2 schools will not necessarily be one in every district. However, not completely satisfied with MoE official´s assurances, student unions vowed to continue with their agitation. [break]
"We are positive about the government´s assurances," Ram Kumari Jhakri, president of All Nepal National Free Students´ Union (ANNFSU), told myrepublica.com. "We will discuss the government´s offers among us, and will take further steps."
The agitating student unions have been demanding that the government provide five posts of teachers to community +2 schools each. They have also been demanding that the government construct one community-based +2 school with science faculty in each district. They have decided to demonstrate in front of MoE on Monday and Tuesday.
In the mean time, MoE on Sunday constituted a committee headed by joint secretary Mahashram Sharma to come up with a resolution within a week to end students´ agitation.
The committee was constituted as per Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal´s instruction. PM Nepal, attending TU´s senate on Friday, had instructed MoE to resolve the row by setting up an all-party committee.
The unions are protesting the TU´s decision to phase out PCL without first strengthening community-based +2 schools.
