Students of Trungram International Academy (TIA) based in Hattigauda, Kathmandu, donated stationery, warm caps, and chocolates to students of Jaya Bhadrakali Adharbhut Vidyalaya, a low-funded community school in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, on Sunday.

About 100 students from kindergarten to grade 8 of Jaya Bhadrakali school received the donation packets at a small ceremony held at the school premises.

The total donation worth Rs 35,000 came through piggybank fund of student of TIA that they saved chipping from their tiffin money. Students from grade 1 to 10 voluntarily put small sums whenever they could in a box put outside the school canteen. The sum was raised in less than six months. 

The piggybank concept was introduced in the school by Uttam Raj Thapa, principal of TIA, inspired by the thought of instilling human values in students at an early age.

The event was carried out through Student Outreach Club, in a novel initiative to engage students in social service, according to TIA management. 

“Love is about giving. You learn to save, and share with the needy,” said Thapa at the handover event. “This may seem a small thing, but its implications are far-reaching. When you teach your kids to love and share, they will make great citizens.”

“Even during times of disaster, when people are in extreme need and even a tiny support means a lot to them, such practice of sharing and giving might come as a great help,” Thapa added. “When you encourage your students to learn it, you do a big service to the society.”

“I came to know that this donation came from the tiffin money that the students voluntarily saved to help others,” said Surendra Lama, chairman of Budhanilkantha Ward 1 and chairman of Jaya Bhadrakali school management committee. “This is commendable act that a human can do to another human.”
