Students’ art on exhibition

An exhibition by Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in collobaration with Nepal-Russia Art Club is underway at the RCSC. The exhibition started on Wednesday, and will be held for a week. The exhibition, showcasing students’ artworks, has coincided with the 200th birthday of Russian painter Ivan Aivazovsky. Aivazovsky is a well-known romantic painter famous for his marine art.

Ragini Upadhyay, chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, was invited as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Sushma Rajbhandari, academician/handicraft chief at Nepal Academy of Fine Arts and president of Nepal-Russia Art club, was also present at the ceremony.

Students of Universal College, Dillibazaar have displayed their academic coursework on art at the exhibition. Some of the artwork and sculptures are dedicated to Aivazovsky. The artists have used acrylic paint, poster colors, stone paint and water color on the canvases. The exhibition also features five portrait and god statue sculptures.

Sushil Tamang, one of the participating students, has a portrait of an old lady sketched with ink-pen at the exhibition.  The details of the work leave spectators in awe. Majority of the participating students were from the Fine Arts department of Universal College.
“The Fine Arts sector is still under shadows in Nepal. One of the main objectives of organizing this exhibition was to promote our student’s talent amid a crowd that appreciates art,” said Shiva Dutta Gyawali, principal of Universal College.
