CHITWAN, Aug 14: Classes at the Saptagandaki Campus in Bharatpur, Chitwan have been closed after the rift in the ruling Unified CPN (Maoist) started manifesting in the student body affiliated to it at the campus.

Two factions of All Nepal Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary), the student wing of the UCPN (Maoist), had clashed in the college campus on August 10 and 12 over the constitution of a campus unit.[break]

The students of the union considered close to the Baidya faction in the UCPN (Maoist) had clashed with the faction close to the party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal over the issue. Over half a dozen students from both factions were injured in the clash.

Both factions held separate press conferences and accused each other of obstructing the constitution of the union’s campus unit and demanded action against the students spoiling the academic environment in the college.

The union has called an indefinite closure of the campus demanding fulfillment of its three-point demands.
