KATHMANDU, June 6: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker and former minister Min Bahadur Bishwakarma has said that the statute of limitations for filing complaints against rape and other forms of sexual violence should not be removed.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday, MP Bishwakarma said that the number of fake cases could rise and the real victims would lose their sanity and come to the streets without getting proper justice if the statute of limitations is removed.

Similarly, he argued that in the case of the elderly, the disabled and the children, the statute of limitations should be removed as they cannot lodge a complaint in time.
Likewise, Bishwakarma also demanded the government take stern action against the perpetrators and provide justice to the victims as sexual violence is a serious crime. He also pointed out the need for a wide-ranging discussion on the issue before formulating any law.
