HOBART, Australia, March 11: Quarterfinal-bound Sri Lanka won the toss Wednesday and elected to bat first against Scotland in a Cricket World Cup match at Bellerive Oval.

Sri Lanka, sitting in fourth place in Pool A, is attempting to move up the standings in order to draw a lower-finishing opponent from Pool B in the first knockout round.

It was the 35th match of the 42-game preliminary round, on the 35th day of the tournament.

Scotland, which has never won a match at the World Cup, made three changes, with Freddie Coleman, Rob Taylor and Michael Leask replacing Majid Haq, Hamish Gardiner and Iain Wardlaw.

Dinesh Chandimal was ruled out of the World Cup due to the right hamstring strain he sustained in Sunday's loss to Australia.

Kusal Perera, who has been training with the squad in Australia since last week, was included in coach Marvan Atapattu's lineup Wednesday as a replacement. Perera and Dushmanta Chameera will be making their World Cup debuts.

Kumar Sangakkara will be looking to score his fourth consecutive century in the tournament.
