Sports to be included as compulsory subject in school curriculum

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The School Sports Development Board under the National Sports Council has decided to include sports in school curriculum as a ´compulsory subject´ rather than optional one from the next academic session.



The 10th meeting of Board held recently took a decision to this end. The Board made its decisions public through a press meet here Sunday. [break]



Speaking at the programme, Council´s member-secretary Yubraj Lama said the decision was aimed at strengthening the base of sports and producing skilled athletes from the school-level.



As per the meeting decisions, every school should involve students in sports activities at least for an hour every Friday and the Council would provide them sports materials free of cost.



Besides, the meeting decided to manage one sports teacher in every school.



The Board is going to organise the second school sports-2070 BS in coming December in coordination of HISAN, PABSON, N-PABSAN, community schools, Department of Education and Ministry of Youth and Sports, it is learnt.
