SPORTS BRIEFS: Shangrlia Academy moved to Lamatar

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Shangrila Cricket Academy has moved their cricket academy to Subhatara School, Lamatar. Shangrila established three years earlier at Kupandol, Lalitpur has cosntructed three lane training center on its new ground where regular matches could be conducted, stated the academy on Wednesday.



Aamir Akhtar, the chief of academy has appointed Dipendra Chaudhary and Manoj Baisya as the director and coordinator respectively. Chaudhary and Baisya are national cricket players. [break]



Australian national Jack Dent is the junior coach of the academy. According to Akhtar, Dent got associated with the academy under the initiative of Australian Embassy of Nepal.



The academy has stated that it will run a winter camp from the last week of December to January 10. The academy will have viewing gallery, dressing room and provision of transportation for the students.



"Nepali cricket seems to be weak in grass-root level and we are organizing this winter camp focusing students," Director Chaudhary said adding, "Captain Paras Khadka and Paresh Lohani are interested in supporting us."



Akhtar also added that they were focusing on cricket entrepreneurship program for professional development of cricket in the country.



Three wins for Newton



Newton won three matches on Wednesday in the Annal Jyoti Cup Inter-school Valley-wide Volleyball Tournament that kicked off Wednesday at Annal Jyoti Boarding School, Dholahiti.



Newton won two matches under senior boys´ and one in mini boys´ section.



In senior boys´ category, Newton saw off Ambrosia Ideal (AI) 25-8, 25-23 and in other they beat hosts 25-17, 25-19. In mini boys defending champions Newton beat hosts B 25-23, 25-18. In another match against SEB, they were defeated 25-14, 25-10. In senior boys´ other matches, Nightingale dispatched Gyan Bigyan 25-19, 25-10 and hosts had a hard fought 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 win over AI. In senior girls´ section, Annal Jyoti A outplayed Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir 25-22, 25-10 and New Diamond saw off Annal Jyoti B 25-18, 25-12.
