SPORTS BRIEFS: NSC forms another probe panel

KATHMANDU, Nov 7: National Sports Council (NSC) formed a probe committee on Wednesday to investigate into possible irregularities during the Fifth National Games. NSC issued a press note on Wednesday and informed that the probe committee headed by Kamal Khanal, chief of the NSC´s tournament and planning division, comprises representative of Youth and Sports Ministry and NSC´s Legal Advisor Gopi Bhandari as members.



According to NSC, the probe committee has been formed after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) directed Youth and Sports Ministry to probe into possible irregularities in the Fifth National Games. [break]



The Fifth National Games was held in Kathmandu in April 2009. Only on Tuesday, a high-level probe committee formed by NSC had submitted its report to NSC patron Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai stating that the financial, managerial and infrastructural aspects of all national sports associations are unsatisfactory.



KMC, NMC win cricket matches



KATHMANDU
: Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) defeated Little Angels College of Management (LACM) by 51 runs in a group stage match of the First KU Cup T20 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday. KMC elected to bat and put up 134/5 in 20 overs at the Kathmandu University Ground, Dhulikhel. Aditya Shrestha scored 49 runs off 45 balls while Prashant Thapa added 35 runs off 31 balls for KMC.



In reply, LACM was all out in 17 overs with 83 runs on board. Man-of-the-match Aditya Shrestha claimed four wickets to seal the victory for KMC. In the second match of the day, Nepal Medical College (NMC) beat Kathmandu University School of Medical Science (KUMS) by 15 runs. NMC elected to bat and was bowled out at 125 runs in 19 overs. Paritosh Bhaskar contributed 32 runs for NMC.



Ashutosh Kafle took four wickets for the KUMS. Chasing the 126-run target, KUMS reached only 110/8 in 20 overs despite Kafle scored 26 runs off 24 balls. Man-of-the-match Anubhav Rijal took four wickets to seal NMC victory.



SPA Cup cricket deferred for January



KATHMANDU
: The third edition of Hotel Devotee SPA Cup Nation-wide Inter-college Cricket Tournament scheduled for November 23 to December 1 in Dhangadhi has been postponed. According to a press statement issued by the organizer Sudhur Paschim Academy (SPA), the event will now be held from January 18 to 26. The event was rescheduled following unavailability of ground for the tournament. The organizer had earlier announced to hold the event at the Nepal Police ground in Dhangadi as the Dhangadi ground owned by National Sports Council is undergoing construction.
