SPORTS BRIEFS: NOC forms dialogue team

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Internationally recognized Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has formed a three-member dialogue team to solve the ongoing dispute regarding NOC. The meeting of NOC formed the committee under the coordination of its Vice President Ganga Bahadur Thapa Magar. Laxman Kumar Shrestha and Chaturananda Baidhya are the members of the committee, a press release issued by the NOC said.



The National Sports Council has recognized the NOC lead by Rukma Sumsher Rana while the internationally recognize committee is headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan. According to Jeevan Ram Shrestha, the general secretary of internationally recognized NOC, the committee was formed to find a long term solution. [break]



Meanwhile, the NOC has also decided to hold golden jubilee of its reorganization by International Olympic Committee. A 85-member main organizing committee has been formed to organize the golden jubilee under chairmanship of its President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan.



C div football kicks off



KATHMANDU
: The Red Bull C Division Football League kicked off on Wednesday at the Chyasal ground in Lalitpur. Khumaltar Youth Club, Nawajyoti Club and Gyan Bhairav Club won their respective matches on the inaugural day. Khumaltar edged past Boys Sports Club 2-0 with goals from Binoj Rai and Anup Bista. Similarly, Nawajyoti Club defeated Shree Bhagawati Club 3-0. Sunil Subedi scored a brace while Sunil Basnet added another. In the last match, Gyan Bhairav saw off Khalibari Football Club 3-0. Saugat Khanal netted twice during the later stage after Arjun Chhetri had opened the scoring in the first half. Altogether 13 teams are competing in the tournament. The league champion will be promoted to B division while the bottom two teams will be relegated.



Host Bajra International off to winning start



KATHMANDU
: Host Bajra International, VS Niletan and Namgyal were off to winning start in the First Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the boys’ section on Wednesday. Bajra defeated Liverpool 28-24 on its home court in Jorpati. Krishna Shahi top scored 17 points for the winning team. Meanwile, VS Niketan thrashed Classic 39-7 while Namgyal saw off Gyan Niketan 28-12 riding on 16 points from Tenzing Rinchen. In the girls’ section, Lord Buddha and Young Heart won their respective matches.



Estonia beats Nepal



KATHMANDU
: Nepal was defeated 3-1 by Estonia on Tuesday during the seventh round of the 40th Olympiad of Chess being held in Istanbul, Turkey. FM Manish Hamal’s poor run continued in the event who was defeated along with Dhirgaraj Joshi. Meanwhile, Prachanda Malakar and Rupesh Joshi played draw. Malakar rated 1970 shared point with 2129 rated Mark Lapidus and Jaiswal rated 1956 earned half point from Sadar Cook rated 2173. FM Hamal rated 2118 was defeated by Pavel Bhoroja and Joshi was defeated by Otomar Ladbha. Keshav Shrestha, the FM contender was given rest in the seventh round. Nepal placed in 119th spot until the completion of round sixth has dropped to 132th place after seventh round.
