Two teams of hosts win
Two teams of the hosts St Xavier´s registered victories on Wednesday during the Fifteenth Father Moran Memorial Primary School-level Invitational Football Tournament. St Xavier´s Godavari thrashed United 8-0 while a brace from Kush Thapa helped St Xavier´s Jawlakhel register a 2-0 win over Daffodil. During United´s rout, Rajkumar Tamang, Sujan Giri, Sirjan Mahat and Sampurna Bania scored two goals each for the hosts at their home ground in Gadavari. In another match, Little Angels (LA) hammered Modern Indian 5-0. Atit Raj Kayastha and Saugat scored a brace each while Milan Ghale scored one for LA.
Int´l taekwondo from Saturday
The Eighth International Friendship Taekwondo Championship is all set to kick off on Friday at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu. The two-day event will see participation of players from eight countries. The championship organized by Maitri Taekwondo Dojang, Satdobato, has received the approval from Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA). Two teams, one each from the NTA and the hosts, will represent Nepal in the event. Seven players from the USA, two from England, two from Canada, four from Qatar, seven from Hong Kong, five from the Philippines and six from India have registered for the game. Four weight categories are included each in the men´s and women´s above-18 age group. Meanwhile, there are five weight categories each in the boy´s and girls´ bouts for the age group of 14-17. The organizers have been hosting the championship in various countries for the past ten years. This is the third time the event is about to be held in Nepal, states a press release issued by the organizer on Wednesday. The World Taekwondo Federation has recognized the championship from its seventh edition.
Lalitpur, Kathmandu triumph
Lalitpur and Kathmandu won their respective matches on Tuesday in the Wai Wai U-19 Regional Selection Cricket Tournament of Region No 3, Kathmandu. Lalitpur defeated Bhaktapur by 96 runs at the TU Cricket Ground while Kathmandu pulled off an eight-wicket victory over Nuwakot. Lalitpur put up 205 runs in allotted 23 overs losing six wickets. Ujjwal Thapa scored 58 runs off 41 balls for Lalitpur. Bhaktapur were 109/6 at the completion of 23 overs. Rajan Karki´s 25 runs was highest by a batsman for Bhaktapur while they accumulated 27 runs from extras. In the next match, Nuwakot were all out for 44 runs 12.2 overs as Rupesh Shrivastav took five wickets for Kathmandu. Shrivastav completed his hat-trick in the third over of the innings. Kathmandu met the target in 5.1 overs losing two wickets after Subash Khakurel struck 22 runs.
Ambrosia defeat GEMS
Ambrosia Ideal defeated GEMS in the junior boy´s volleyball during the 17th Eicher Gyan Carnival on Wednesday. Ambrosia registered a 25-19, 25-13 victory in straight sets on the court of Gyanodaya Bal Batika. In the girls´ basketball, Sridiwa, Daffodil and Rato Bangala won their respective matches. Sridiwa struggled past Prithvi 12-10 riding on the 10 points from Bimala Gurung. Daffodil ousted the hosts 24-19. Pasang Sherpa scored seven points for the winning team. Rato Bangala secured an easy win over Motherland, thrashing their opponent 37-0. Shalin Shah contributed 12 points for Rato Bangala. In the boys´ basketball, Dhirendra Raut scored 17 points for Galaxy as they defeated GEMS 56-29 while Wilson Academy beat Siddhartha Vanasthali 43-29. In the boy´s football, GEMS thrashed Gyankunj 5-1. The match between Siddhartha Vanasthali and Gurukul ended in a goalless draw.
Pritima in semis
Pritima English School secured a semifinal berth on Wednesday during the Fifth FECA Cup Inter-school Boys Football Tournament. A goal each from Umesh Thapa Magar and Kaushal Thapa helped Pritima defeat Greenwich Academy 2-1 in the quarterfinal match held at town planning ground of Old Sinamangal. Prakash Thapa, who was later adjudged the man of the match, scored a consolation goal for Greenwich. In another quarterfinal match, Gothatar English School ousted Career Building International Academy 1-0. Dilip Karki scored the decider for Gothatar while his teammate Sachin Poudel was declared man-of-the-match.
