SPORTS BRIEFS: Ganesh sinks Police in Butwal

KATHMANDU, June 4: A lone goal from Ganesh Khadka earned Jhapa XI a 1-0 win over his former team Nepal Police Club on Thursday in the 18th Tilottama Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Butwal, Rupandehi. Khadka scored in the 54th minute during 80 minute match to sink his former team and secure Jhapa's place in the semifinal.



The departmental powerhouse was playing without its key players and Nepali international Bhola Silwal and goalie Ritesh Thapa. Skipper Jumanu Rai was forced to leave the pitch midway of the first half due to thigh injury. Jhapa will take on Tribhuvan Army Club and home team Rupandehi XI will meet Darjeeling XI in the semifinals.

MMC distributes relief
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu-based A Division Football Club Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) on Thursday distributed relief materials to the earthquake victims of Manakamana VDC of Nuwakot district. The club distributed corrugated sheets, tarpaulins, medicines and foods in ward number 2 and 3 of Manakamana VDC, according to the club.


The club also provided corrugated sheets to 160 households of Chetkhor 3 and among members of Tamang community. Manang treasurer Dorje Gurung and other members distributed the relief materials. The earthquake had claimed 10 lives and destroyed 250 houses in Chetkhor and Tamang community.
