SPORTS BRIEFS: Bridgewater stuns Morgan

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Bridgewater International defeated Morgan International 2-0 in the 3rd NK Memorial Inter College Football Tournament on Tuesday organized by the STAR club of Budhanilkantha School.



Ramesh Poddar and Sandesh Gurung scored a goal each in the crucial Group A fixture.[break]



Keshav Chaudhary of Bridegewater was awarded the man of the match for his wonderful defensive performance. Brigdewater and Morgan both have three points in group A. Brigdewater will face Budhanilkantha School in the all important group A game on Thursday that will potentially decide the fate of the teams in this group.



Samaj Kalyan, Shree Kumari win matches
KATHMANDU: Samaj Kalyan Khelkud Kendra defeated Sakshamnagar Club 3-1 at the ANFA Technical Center Chyasal on Tuesday in the Martyrs´ Memorial Red Bull C Division League Football Tournament. Bibek Pradhan scored brace for Samaj Kalyan and Bhisan Shrestha added a goal more while Pradeep Magar scored the consolation goal for Sakshamnagar. Likewise, Shree Kumari Club beat Charumati Yuva Pariwar 2-1 in the second match of the day. Umesh Thapa gave a lead to Charumati in the 23rd minute while Chandra Bahadur Tamang and Binoj Rai scored a goal each in the 46th and 75th minute respectively for the Shree Kumari.


Gurung into last 16
KATHMANDU: Suresh Gurung booked his spot in the last 16 of men´s open section during the Third NSRA Open Squash Championship on Tuesday. Gurung registered victory over Rabi Jain in three straight sets in the match played at the Satdobato Squash Academy. Likewise, Robin Shakya, Kiran Maharjan, Deelip Adhikari and Karbir Tamang won their respective matches in the first round of the tournament. Lokendra Man Singh Bhandari and Rajendra Bhakta Shrestha won their first round matches in the veteran men´s singles of the above 40 age group. Nilima Malla and Krishna Thapa registered victories in women´s round-robin league matches on Tuesday. Malla defeated Sneha Banshal while Thapa beat Shera Tamang. The tournament is organized by Nepal Squash and Rackets Association.



Singh receives B level certificate
KATHMANDU: Assistant coach of the Nepali national football team, Upendraman Singh on Tuesday received certificate of the DFB Coaching Course (B level). Singh had participated in a three-week coaching course from April 4-21 held at Hennef Sports Center, Koln in Germany. Singh, also the coach of Himalayan Sherpa Club, received his certificate from the Embassy of Germany.
