SPORTS BRIEFS: APF, Police achieve second win

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Departmental teams -- Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force (APF) -- registered second consecutive victory on Friday in the Eighth Dhorpatan Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament being held at New Bus Park, Gongabu. Police edged past Dhading District Volleyball Association in straight sets 25-2, 25-12, 25-4. APF defeated Fishtail Higher Secondary School in four sets.



APF lost the first set 23-25 but won three other sets 25-13, 25-8, 25-23. Chandeshwari defeated Kavre District Volleyball Association in straight sets 25-18, 28-26, 25-16 in course of achieving its first win. New Diamond Sports Club defeated Angel´s Heart in straight sets 25-12, 25-12, 25-16. [break]



Nepal Don Bosco in quarterfinal



KATHMANDU
: Nepal Don Bosco secured quarterfinal place in the 17th Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament on Friday. Manjil Pradhan netted four goals as Nepal Don Bosco eased past LRI 5-1. Suman Ghale scored another for the winning side. Avash Dhungel scored consolation for LRI. In other matches of league rounds, Dongden Devi School of Tipling, Dhading and Moran Memorial School of Jhapa emerged victorious. Man Ghale scored the lone goal for Dongden´s 1-0 win over Triyog. Moran saw off Eden Garden 2-0 with goals coming from Rajbanshi duo JB and Dhan Bahadur.



Holder SAM off to winning start



KATHMANDU
: Defending champion and host Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya (SAM), Bhaktapur started the Sixth Chief of the Army Staff Inter-school Running Cricket Tournament on a winning note on Friday at the host´s ground in Bhaktapur. With all round performance from Prashant Shrestha, SAM thumped Deep Jyoti School by 147 runs. Put to bat first, SAM scored 191 runs for the loss of five wickets and bowled out Deep Jyoti for 44 runs in 16.2 over. Prashant Shrestha, declared the man-of-the-match, claimed five wickets of Deep Jyoti and remained unbeaten for 23 runs.



Nirmal Bastakoti scored 47 rus for the host while Niraj Shrestha contributed 31 runs and Gunjan Yadav 16 runs. In another match, Rajan Memorial defeated Nepal Police School by six wickets. Police that opted to bat first was all out for 99 runs in 17.4 overs. Bhupendra Oli (16) and Aryan Deepak Rau (10) contributed for Police School. Rajan Memorial achieved the target with two balls to spare for the loss of six wickets. Asim Shrestha of Rajan Memorial was declared the man-of-the-match.



Football league resumes Saturday



KATHMANDU
: Martyrs Memorial A Division Football League will resume on Saturday after two days break. Title contender Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) will lock horns against Bauddha FC in the first match of the day while Madhyapur Youth Association will meet Armed Police Force (APF) in other. With a victory over Bauddha, MMC with four points could level points with leader Machhindra Club at the top of points table. Bauddha at the bottom of the standings without single points will get an opportunity to earn point if it wins the match or secures as draw. APF is second from the bottom without any points while Madhyapur with two points is in the 10th position. Madhyapur has maintained unbeaten run up to two matches. All teams will play their third match of the league.
