KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Host LRI set up a final with Pushpa Sadan in the boys" section of the LRI Valley-wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Similarly, Valley Public and Gyanodaya reached the girls" final winning their respective matches. LRI defeated Baba 55-41 in the boys" semifinal held in the capital on Saturday. Raj Kunwar scored 21 points for the host while Yuvaraj Tamang netted 32 points for Baba. In another semifinal, Pushpa Sadan toiled hard to beat The Excelsior 73-62 in extra time after both sides were tied at 58-58 in the regulation time. In the extra time, Pushpa Sadan scored 15 points while The Excelsior netted four points. Pratik Shrestha contributed the highest 25 points for the winning team. Meanwhile, Valley Public defeated LRI 35-21 with 18 points from Soniya Limbu in the girls" semifinal. Similarly, Gyanodaya saw off Shridiwa 39-21 to enter the final. Gautami Bhattachan scored 21 points for the winning team. The final matches will be played on Monday.
Tuladhar elected for third term in Sankata
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) CEO Indraman Tuladhar has been elected president of A division club Sankata for the third time in a row. The 62nd general assembly of the club on Saturday elected an 11-member committee for the next three years.
There was voting only for two vice-presidents in which Rameshwar Dhoj Basnet and Rajatman Tuladhar were elected from among three candidates. Surendra Shikhrakar was reelected general secretary, while Gautam Dangol was elected treasurer, Rameshman Tuladhar secretary and Ram Suwal was elected co-treasurer. Rabi Harsha Bajracharya, Rameshman Tuladhar, Sagun Shikhrakar and Biju Shikhrakar were elected members.
The new committee nominated Chandraman Tuladhar and Sanukaji Dangol as members and former treasurer Jujukaji Dangol as football manager.
The meeting approved an estimated budget of Rs 14 million for the current fiscal year and also approved the last fiscal year"s expenditure of 15.4 million presented by Dangol. Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to convert the club, currently operating as a community-based social organization, into a private limited with a view to promoting professional football.
Rana wins golf tourney
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Pradeep Bikram Rana on Saturday claimed the title of Ninth Ballantine"s Monthly Medal Golf Tournament held at the Royal Nepal Golf Club, Kathmandu. Rana, an 11-handicap amateur golfer, finished with a net score of 61. He played one-over 34 on the front nine and carded four-over 38 on the back nine. Phintso Ongdi Lama secured second position at 63 and Gopal Chitrakar finished third at 65.
Altogether 27 players competed in the September"s monthly medal tournament. After the completion of nine monthly medal rounds, 12 golfers have made it to the final round. Neeraj SJB Rana leads the standings with 591 points, 12 points ahead of Lakshman Pun. Tashi Ghale is in third place with 516 points while Shree Jay Acharya (431) and Mithun Rai (415) are in fourth and fifth positions. Other golfers who reached the final round are PK Shrestha, Roop Lama, Madan Rana, Niraj Pun, Gopal Chitrakar, PB Shrestha and Yuvaraj Gurung.
TIA B beats Kathmandu Valley
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): The B team of host Trungram International School achieved victory on Saturday in the Second TIA Cup Nine-a-side Football Tournament being held in the capital. Bikram Ale scored a hat-trick as TIA B thumped Kathmandu Valley 5-1. Ale netted in the 10, 20th and 35th minutes. Prabesh Kunwar and Bishwas Shrestha were also on the scoresheet. Prashant Simkhada scored a consolation goal for Kathmandu Valley.
Children Model finishes on top
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Children Model School finished on top in the Fourth Newton Gojukai Karate Championship in the capital on Saturday winning six gold, five silver and five bronze medals. Valley Public took second place with three golds, one silver and one bronze. Host Newton finished third with one gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Global Public, New Summit win
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Global Public School and New Summit School emerged victorious on Saturday in the NSFA Inter-school Football Tournament for Kathmandu district held at the Sano Gaucharan ground. Global Public defeated Nexus 4-0 and New Summit edged past Continental Boarding School 2-0. Meanwhile, Valley View received a walkover from Pritima. Triveni defeated Little Buddha Academy 3-0 at Tokha ground, but Little Buddha has lodged a protest against Triveni. In other matches, Laxmipur beat Tri Ratna Triple Gem School 4-0 and Green Field edged past Sri Budhanilkantha 2-1 while TIA received a walkover from White Field. At the LAB ground, Green Lawns beat Laboratory School 2-0, Pushpa Sadan beat Kuleshwar 4-2 in tie-breaker and Jana Sewa beat Mangal High School 4-1. RIBS received a walkover from Radiant.
Sunuwar to lead Lalitpur handball
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Lalitpur District Handball Association on Saturday elected a nine-member executive committee led by Kishor Sunuwar. The first general assembly of the association elected Moti Bogati and Yugal Mukhiya as vice-presidents. Similarly, Raju Bikram Thapa was elected secretary. Meanwhile, the general assembly also felicitated players from the district who competed in the national tournament.
