According to senior official at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) Shyam Kishore Shah, a first-class officer at MoAC will head the office. Other staff include agricultural scientists, agricultural engineers, officers, junior employees and other assistant-level staff.
“The team has been entrusted to design and implement short-term and long-term rehabilitation programs for the victims within a tenure of three years,” said Hem Raj Regmi, under-secretary at MoAC.
Regmi said the mission office will ensure effective delivery of services to the victims, assist them with rehabilitation and work for their food security and livelihood, under direct monitoring by the ministry.
The government had already approved Rs 732.16 million, as demanded by MoAC, for implementation of the rehabilitation programs, including immediate, short-term and long-term programs.
Out of the amount, the government has released Rs 50.93 million in a first installment through MoAC, the Department of Agriculture, Department of Livestock and Nepal Agriculture Research Council.
The programs covers Shripur, Haripur, West Kushaha, Laukahi, Narsing, Bhokraha, Ghuski, Harinagar and Basantapur VDCs of Sunsari district.
MoAC has estimated the Koshi devastation at over Rs 300 million in damaged crops and livestock. More than 40,000 people were displaced.
